Bethel Star Apostolic Church International History
Bethel Star Apostolic Church International, Inc. was originally located at 328 Lincoln Avenue in Lebanon, Kentucky. Due to a tremendous blessing from God, we are now located at 114 E. Main St. in Lebanon, KY. It was founded by Helen Allen who was born and raised in Penick Station as Helen Buckner. Ms. Allen went into the ministry some time prior to establishing the church in the late 1920s. She was the founder of both Star Bethel Church in Riley, Kentucky and Bethel Star Church in Lebanon, Kentucky. Members of the congregation would attend services in Riley in the morning and then have Sunday school and evening services in Lebanon at the homes of members.
As the congregation grew, donations were received to construct a building in Lebanon for Bethel Star church. It started as a one room building and later it was expanded to include a kitchen, bathroom and underground baptism pool.
Since its beginning, several pastors have been involved in maintaining its ministry. Ms. Allen pastored both churches through her evangelistic work until she released leadership of the Lebanon church to Bishop D. T. Shultz.
After some time, eventually sister Lizzy Jones of Louisville, Kentucky pastored the Lebanon church for approximately 10 or 12 years. However, she was forced to retire due to blindness. William P. Foree became pastor for the next 9 years, but he too released the church to another minister when Foree moved to Texas.
During the vacancy, Calvin H. Ferguson came to Bethel Star Apostolic and led the church for thirty-eight years. The 80-year old pastor made trips from his residence in Springfield, Tennessee every Sunday and stayed until Wednesday. According to members, he was the only pastor to be installed at Bethel Star Apostolic.
Pastor Ferguson was replaced in 2008 by Elder Michael Johnson, Sr. Elder Johnson, who was installed on September 27, 2008, is currently the pastor of Bethel Star Apostolic, Inc. all begins with an idea.
